The short comparison
“No subscription” is not the same as “free forever”. It means you are not paying every month or year to keep training. A good logger may still be free with limits. A planner that builds the next session from your log is usually sold as a membership. Flux is the third shape: free to download, every feature for 14 days with no payment and no automatic charge, then one Lifetime Unlock if you want to keep training.
| If you want | Typical offer | Watch for |
|---|---|---|
| Only a log of sets | A tracker with a lasting free tier | History, routines or custom exercises may be capped until you pay |
| Someone else to write the next workout | A subscription planner | A trial that asks for a card and renews unless you cancel |
| A plan that keeps moving, paid once | Flux: 14-day trial, then Lifetime Unlock | Training access ends when the trial ends unless you unlock or already have access |
Apple shows the Lifetime Unlock price for your storefront before you confirm. Eligible people who already paid for Flux keep Full Access. This page does not rank every gym app; it helps you match the bill to the job.
What you actually get during the trial
The trial is Full Access, not a demo of two workouts. You can generate around your goal, equipment and time, log load, reps and effort, and see the next session respond. Optional Apple Health sleep and HRV can sit in that loop if you switch them on. There is no subscription to cancel because none was started.
- iPhone and iPad only. There is no Android app yet.
- Not a chatbot. Personalisation runs on the device from the work you log, not from a chat window.
- You stay in control. You can edit, swap and override. The app does not lock you into a session you did not accept.
When a subscription planner is still the right buy
Pay monthly if you want that specific product’s coaching style, community or exercise library, and you are fine renting it. A membership is not a trick. It is a commercial choice. The mistake is only buying one because every search result is a membership, when what you wanted was to stop paying rent on a log.
When a free tracker is enough
If you already have a programme on paper and only need a clean place to type numbers, a logger with a real free tier can be the whole answer. Flux is a worse fit in that case: after 14 days you either unlock or you stop training in the app. Do not download it expecting a permanent free log.
A week with a plan you own
Count the days you actually train. Pick a split you can finish. Let the log decide the next load. That is the job Flux is built for, described without a version number in the full body vs upper/lower vs PPL guide and the progressive-overload guide. The free Workout Split Finder compares structures before you download anything.
| Day | In the gym | In the app |
|---|---|---|
| Monday | Full-body session from the plan | Log the sets. The next prescription waits on those results |
| Wednesday | The next session in order | Do not stack two hard days because the calendar looks empty |
| Friday | Finish the week’s patterns | If a day disappeared, the next session is still the next session |
Frequently asked questions
Is Flux really not a subscription?
Yes. There is no monthly or yearly Flux membership, and the trial never charges you automatically. After 14 days, training needs a Lifetime Unlock or an eligible existing entitlement. That is a one-time in-app purchase, not a plan that renews.
Is there a free workout app with no subscription at all?
Several loggers keep a free tier. Flux does not. The download is free; ongoing training after the trial is paid once. If “free forever” is the requirement, choose a tracker whose free limits you can live with.
Will I be asked for a card to start the trial?
No. The 14-day Full Access trial is managed in the app and does not require payment to begin.
What happens when the 14 days end?
New workouts stay behind the unlock unless you already have access. An already-open session can be finished. Restore Purchases with the same Apple Account if a previous payment is not recognised.
How do I try it without another gym-app bill?
Download Flux Free. Use the fortnight. If the next session is clearer than a spreadsheet, unlock once. If you only needed a log, keep the tracker you already like.
